175 years ago on the 30th May 1842, Bishop George Augustus Selwyn landed in NZ and commenced his role as the first Bishop of NZ. An account of his arrival says, “It was early in the morning when the vessel sailed up the Waitemata. As soon as the anchor had splashed into the quiet water, Selwyn rowed ashore. He stepped on to the beach and then, in the quiet hush of early morning, he knelt down on the sand and humbly thanked his Heavenly Father for the high honour that had been given to him, and asked for strength and blessing in all his work.”

Special thanks to the Curran family and to our morning services for ensuring that St Paul’s is prepared should anyone need urgent assistance in the future.
