A wide and deepening relationship between St Paul’s Auckland and St Saviour’s Kaitaia has grown over the last 5 or years, originally championed byVicar's warden, Dizz Bundy and her husband James, and developed by our former Vicar, Mike Norris', friendship with St Saviour's Vicar, Bill Heald. Though these people have now all moved on from their posts, the bond between these two churches continues to be passionately developed by a community action group, based at St Paul's, called Kaitaia Fire. What does Kaitaia Fire do? Practical and prayer support of the St Saviour's Feed My Lambs Ministry Relational, resourcing and prayer support of the St Saviour's leadership team Practical and prayer support of the St Saviour's Youth Ministry
Primarily, Kaitaia Fire provides structured support of the St Saviour's Feed My Lambs programme, working with young, at risk mums in the Kaitaia community. We rally for groceries to meet practical family needs including formula, nappies, wipes, baby products and pak'n'save vouchers. These donations are then sent north and distributed to struggling families, particularly in rural and overlooked areas, and given in the context of discipleship and connection to the church community. Over the years, St Paul's have sent teams north to assist with services, provided books for their Sunday School, given food and clothing, parcels for the community, arranged for a bus to get people down to Glow, billeted people from the north, sent van-loads of food and supplies, donated financially, helped with building and painting and most recently, have blessed and sent our curate, Dino Houtas, and family up to replace retired Bill Heald as the Vicar of St Saviour's. We need your help We are keen to see the friendship between the two parishes deepen and thrive and to continue to support Dino and the flourishing work of St Saviour's in a community of overwhelming need.
